Pediatric Dental Exams

What are Pediatric Dental Exams?

Pediatric dental exams are done in our office in a safe, comfortable and relaxed manner. A dental exam is composed of a thorough evaluation of all hard (teeth) and soft tissues (gums) for detection of cavities and oral health conditions. Diagnostic aids such as x-rays may be needed to help with this visual examination. Using kid friendly terminology at all times, Dr. Chris will assess your child’s overall oral health as well as monitor your child’s growth and skeletal development. Our goal is to provide the best experience possible!

Why are Pediatric Dental Exams needed?

Prevention and early detection of cavities can improve your child’s overall health, increasing wellness and school performance, as well as reduce the need for future more involved treatment. Early diagnosis of malocclusions can allow for intervention.

I have taken my daughter to Peak for the past year and our experience has been awesome. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. My daughter actually enjoys going to the dentist! Dr. Chris is great with her and keeps me updated on any issues we may encounter in the future. Their costs are very reasonable

Took my daughter in today, saved us hundreds in what we thought was an infected tooth that needed to be extracted. Turns out The Super Dentists aren’t so super, because these dentists informed us it wasn’t even infected what so ever! I’ve taken my daughter to super dentists for 5 years and spend thousands in

Best. Dentist. EVER. Even though my little is still on the younger side (she’s one) and we only see them every six months right now, the two times we’ve been there, they have been AMAZING! The whole staff is amazing and so friendly! And, they try and make the parent(s) and child so comfortable and

Dr Dixon and his staff have always been so thoughtful and conscientious with our children. He has always been available to us when there’s been an emergency. I appreciate that he is supportive of our choices as parents to be cautious as times, and having a “let’s monitor it and see” approach at other times.

I was referred to Dr.Dixon, here at Peak Pediatric from our Orthodontist. I’m so happy they were able to quickly fit all 3 of my children in for a cleaning. The staff took their time to show all of us around and get to know us before starting any x-rays. Staff and Dr.Dixon are so

How often should Pediatric Dental Exams be done?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends dental exams be complete every 6 months. Children who are at a higher rate of developing cavities or periodontal disease it is recommended that cleanings be performed every 3 months. The first dental appointment is recommended at age 1. By bringing your child into the office regularly it helps them build confidence allowing them to develop good habits that can carry into their adulthood.

What Happens During a Dental Cleaning?

This all depends on your child’s age and level of comfortability. We try to keep the appointment as positive as possible. For Infants, exams and cleanings are quicker and done in the lap of Dr. Chris and the parent. For children that are able to sit in the chair, we polish their teeth removing plaque and tartar. Light scaling may be needed to remove calculus; teeth are then flossed. An exam is completed by Dr. Chris, then fluoride is applied to all teeth. Oral hygiene technique is discussed with children in terms they understand and reviewed with parents. If you would like to learn more about dental exams and a cleaning call us today so that we can get you in for a quick and convenient appointment.
